Jan Horan

Hello, my name is Jan Horan. I am the Business & Resource Manager. I originally started volunteering at The Toy House (formerly known as Delamere Toy & Tape library) when my youngest child started school and she is now 25! It is such an honour to be involved with this charity and to witness the difference it makes to peoples’ lives.

I have many aspects to my job however the main part of my role is to organise and manage The Toy House sessions with the support of my colleague Margaret Bamber and our wonderful team of volunteers. The Toy House main aim is to make the sessions all-inclusive and non-judgemental in a welcoming setting. I network with the local community and other agencies to ensure that we deliver the best possible service.

Margaret Bamber

Hi, my name is Margaret.  I have been involved with The Toy House, otherwise known as ‘My Second Home’, since 1990 when my youngest child, Nick, was born. Nick has Down Syndrome and it was suggested that we visit Delamere Toy Library, as The Toy House was known then.  At that time, the Charity worked primarily with families with a disabled child, so off we went.

In the intervening years I have been a volunteer at the Charity and been employed in a number of roles and now my colleague, Jan Horan, and I manage the day to day running of The Toy House. Thanks to funding from Trafford Housing Trust, my main responsibility is to run the Volunteering For Success Programme. supporting disabled people or those that need a supportive environment to gain valuable work experience opportunities.
